The Black Dahlia Murder

With their latest album Everblack, The Black Dahlia Murder seemed to notch up their intensity resulting in perhaps their strongest release to date. Obviously proud of it, the Michigan band squeeze in seven of its tracks in a blistering set.
Appropriately they open with In Hell Is Where She Waits for Me, a song about Elizabeth Short who was the Black Dahlia on which their name is based. The crowd’s fists were soon pumping along with Alan Cassidy’s bass drum to the opening melodic intro before frontman Trevor Strnad let out a pained scream and it was peddle to the metal riffing.
“This song’s about the horns, let me see them!”, demanded Strnad as the Everblack tracks continued with Goat of Departure with the mid-section chant of “Six, six, six” drawing major crowd participation.
Moving away from the latest album Everything Went Black incited a pit before the comparatively mid paced respite of On Stirring Seas of Salted Blood led us to Miasma favourite Statutory Ape. Now sporting a beard, the bare chested Strnad marauded around the stage conducting the crowd with his free hand.
Following a couple more new songs, the insanely catchy Moonlight Equilibrium saw Ryan Knight & Brian Eschbach’s guitar lines combining to great effect and formed the high point of the set.
There was no let up for the crowd as The Black Dahlia Murder were only half way through hammering them. The second half of the set included a sing-along to the chorus of Raped in Hatred by Vines of Thorn and a majestic Into The Everblack. A brutal I Will Return wrapped up the main set with the band true to the song’s title, returning to wrap things up with Map Of Scars.
