Mean Fiddler
"He`s huge" cries someone next to me as Head-On vocalist Mark O`Regan takes to the stage. Yes, he is huge and Head-On deserve to be. Fozzy had given Head-On the full Mean Fiddler stage tonight and right from the stomping intro to Break Down The Walls they own it.
This is music to get pumped up about with Effon`s controlled but pounding drumming during Sunrise compelling you to nod along. It`s not just about brutality though, as Head-On have a set full of catchy anthems. The Stomp does just that, with Oz`s teasing squeals out of his guitar while Ross "The Boss" holds down the bass heavy bottom end.
Here Comes The Hammer rounds things off with a chorus as huge as the hammer O`Regan brandishes. Head-On were the perfect band to open for Fozzy and from the huge grins all around me afterwards it seems I wasn`t the only one to come to that conclusion.
Head-On set list included:
Break The Walls Down / Sunrise / Wrecking Ball / The Stomp / Breaking Point / Here Comes The Hammer
It`s apparent and unsurprising that a large portion of tonight`s crowd are fans of wrestling as a cry of Jer-i-cho, Jer-i-cho" greets Fozzy. Fozzy started out essentially as a joke covers band, but have transformed into a potent rock outfit in their own right.
To Kill A Stranger is as good as any cover they could have played tonight and sees guitarists Rich Ward and Mike Martin trading licks. Ward is the real mastermind of the band and his heavy, groovy riffing is as equally suited to Jericho`s melodic vocals as they are to Bonz`s rapping in Stuck Mojo.
It obvious that to be a success in American wrestling you need a bit of showmanship and Chris Jericho has this in bucket loads. Jericho works the crowd with ease and the feeling he gives us is one of being at a riotous party. One he joins at the end of the gig with a dive into the crowd.
Quite honestly Fozzy`s performance compelled you to join in and that`s exactly what I did, bouncing along from Daze Of The Weak to the closing cover of Live Wire.
Fozzy set list:
To Kill A Stranger / Eat The Rich / End Of Days / Daze Of The Weak / Crucify Yourself / With The Fire / Feel The Burn / Nameless Faceless / Don't You Wish You Were Me / Freewheel Burning / Livewire
